Urologic Pathology

Biopsies of the bladder, kidney, ureter, prostate, urethra and penis make up the field of urologic pathology. Prostate cancer is a common cancer occurring in older males. There has been some controversy in the past few years over screening for prostate cancer and if it is worthwhile. Many prostate cancers are indolent meaning the patient can possibly live a normal life without many effects from the cancer. However, there are other patient’s with prostate cancer that have an aggressive course of disease and even the cancer resulting in death. Most general pathologists are familiar with the diagnosis of cancers and other disorders involved with the urologic specialty. The Pathology Group has the experience and expertise for the interpretation of any of these biopsies.
